Job summary

Arch is seeking a Senior Underwriter in Alpharetta, GA to lead profitable new and renewal P&C business for the Private Equity segment. You will own large accounts, negotiate participation, pricing, and terms, and act as a technical expert on one product line.

You will build broker and client relationships, drive underwriting decisions across lines such as General Liability, Umbrella, Property, Workers Compensation, and collaborate with MMC, ARC, Claims, and Operations.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of Commercial Property & Casualty underwriting experience.
• Established relationships with brokers at peer group level.
• Specialized understanding of regional/local insurance markets.
• Undergraduate degree preferred; CPCU preferred.

Job description

Position Summary:

The Senior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting profitable new and renewal business targeting the P&C Private Equity industry segment. This includes taking ownership of large accounts and clients, overseeing negotiation of participation, pricing, and terms and conditions. The Senior Underwriter will develop and maintain strong relationships with both brokers and clients, and serve as a specialized technical expert or lead for at least one industry or product line, such as General Liability, Umbrella, Commercial Auto, Commercial Property, or Workers Compensation. This will be a hybrid role in Alpharetta, GA.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Manage assigned broker portfolio of accounts to achieve efficient returns of profitability and growth
• Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom line targets
• Underwrite, maintain, and grow a profitable book of Property and Casualty business including Workers Compensation, General Liability, Automobile, and Umbrella/Excess placements within the Private Equity vertical.
• Specialist / Technical Expert in Product Line within Middle Market Business
• Ensure placing and binding of FAC Reinsurance prior to policy inception
• Acquisition of new business and retention of existing business including client and broker negotiations
• Manage complex referrals from underwriters and spokes and re-underwrite complex business as appropriate
• Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including e.g. MMC, ARC, Claims, Operations

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Risk Assessment and Management: Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards
• Pricing and Market Mgt: Analyze current performance against benchmarks applying how the market operates and functions, the business needs and customer needs
• Contract Drafting and Interpretation: Design, develop and implement consistent, robust wordings
• Policy Management: Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation
• Influencing Skills: Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority
• Analytical Skills: Ability to effectively absorb information from various sources, then analyze, study or examine data in detail, and draw appropriate conclusions
• IT Skills (Office applications): Use general office application tools e.g. Power Point, Excel, Word

Education and Experience:

• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of Commercial Property & Casualty Underwriting experience. Middle Market experience is preferred
• Recognized established relationships with brokers at peer group level and within market
• Specialized understanding of regional / local insurance markets and competitor landscape
• Undergraduate degree required. Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, or Business Administration is preferred
• Completion of professional insurance qualification (e.g. CPCU) is preferred.

Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
