Job summary

Argo Group in Richmond, VA is seeking a production underwriter to market, underwrite, and process assigned lines of business. This is a 100% in-office role requiring presence on-site during standard business hours.

You will underwrite submissions, manage broker communications, and expand relationships across targeted territories while contributing to a robust submission pipeline and overall production goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience.
  • IIA and CPCU designations strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years underwriting experience with authority.

Responsibilities

Job Description

This is a production underwriting position responsible for marketing, underwriting and processing assigned lines of business. Responsibilities may also include participating in special projects and mentoring less experienced staff.

This is a 100% in-office position. Candidates must be able to work on-site at a designated company office during standard business hours.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Underwrite and analyze new business and renewal submissions for our assigned area.
  • Ensure our marketing initiatives are achieved and that consistent communication of our products and services are provided to our retail and wholesale brokers.
  • Further develop existing broker relations as well as establish new relationships in targeted territories to attract business opportunities.
  • Actively participate in client and broker meetings.
  • Develop and maintain a submission pipeline sufficient to achieve overall production and business mix objectives.
  • Use market contacts to bring in business, gather and share market intelligence and cross-sell other products.
Qualifications / Experience Required
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • A relentless desire to continually update your skill level through continuing education and self-development.
  • Previous insurance educational work, IIA and CPCU designations are strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of five years underwriting experience with authority
  • A genuine excitement to not only meet, but exceed, our customer’s expectation on each and every interaction with the customer.
  • Demonstrated robust and productive relationships with professional liability specialist brokers in the Central U.S., marketplace.
  • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills, achieving favorable outcomes in win/win negotiations.
  • Flexibility and the ability to thrive in change are important to be successful here.
  • A strong focus on execution in getting things done right.
  • Proven ability to consistently produce and deliver expected results.
  • Excellent ability to collect, gather, manipulate and analyze information in detail to draw conclusions on how to underwrite an account profitably.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer programs, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.

The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.

Richmond & Omaha pay range: $94,452 - $160,344

Albany Houston & Chicago pay range: $103,398 - $176,562

Los Angeles & New York City pay range: 113,424 - $192,576
