AXA XL’ s Middle Market Excess Casualty business unit offers Umbrella and Excess Liability coverage to North American based Insureds.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Market and solicit new business opportunities from retail broker partners.
  • Analyze submission data including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine degree of risk for each account.
  • Utilize underwriting tools including exposure, experience and industry ratings to analyze complex casualty exposure.
  • Adhere to underwriting guidelines, underwriting authorities and referral requirements as needed to regional management, product management and chief underwriting officers.
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues in the assessment of current and prospective risks, including actuarial, claims, legal and risk engineering.
  • Pro-active service of business in conjunction with our Middle Office to ensure timely and accurate delivery of quotations, binders, policies and endorsements.
  • Cross-sell with other business units to maximize deployment of AXA XL’s capital.
  • Monitor trends within the Marketplace to ensure we stay aware and ahead of emerging issues.
  • Contribute to regional planning through the development and execution of your own annual desk-level underwriting plan.
  • Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Mentoring and motivating team underwriters, while working with underwriting assistants and other integral members of your team.
  • Support training of new hires
  • Assist in portfolio management regarding limit deployment, attachment point aggregation, pricing adequacy and policy terms and conditions.
  • Leadership and involvement in special projects as assigned by senior management.

You will report to the Underwriting Manager.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • In-depth underwriting expertise as it relates to solutions for umbrella/excess casualty to contribute to the underwriting of the full range of renewal and new business accounts.
  • Robust insured and broker interaction in assigned geographic territory with the ability to effectively target current and prospective contacts in order to effectively promote offered products.
  • The ability to travel a minimum of 15% of the time is anticipated.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Work self-directed with the ability to be an open-minded team player with a willingness to actively listen to comprehend unique circumstances that require practical and unique solutions to complex issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to work with both internal teams and external brokers as you will work in a team environment, assisting underwriters and / or deal administrators as part of their overall responsibility.
  • Excellent collaborative skills in a fast-paced team-centric environment.
  • The ability to demonstrate critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 106,500 – 186,500. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
