Senior Underwriter, Excess – Team Lead, West

AXA XL’s Middle Market Excess Casualty business unit provides Umbrella and Excess Liability coverage to North American insureds.

Responsibilities include:

  • Market and solicit new business from retail broker partners.
  • Analyze submission data such as applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports to assess risk.
  • Use underwriting tools to analyze complex casualty exposures.
  • Follow underwriting guidelines, authorities, and referral requirements as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including actuarial, claims, legal, and risk engineering.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of quotations, binders, policies, and endorsements.
  • Cross-sell with other business units to optimize capital deployment.
  • Monitor market trends to stay ahead of emerging issues.
  • Develop and execute an annual underwriting plan.
  • Maintain compliance with guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Mentor and motivate team underwriters and support training of new hires.
  • Assist in portfolio management regarding limits, pricing, and policy terms.
  • Lead or participate in special projects as assigned.

Reporting line: Underwriting Manager.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Deep underwriting expertise in umbrella/excess casualty.
  • Effective interaction with insureds and brokers in the assigned territory.
  • Willingness to travel at least 15% of the time.
