Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks a Senior Underwriter in Chicago to produce and maintain a profitable book of Contractors Environmental Legal Liability and Designers & Contractors Professional Liability in the Environmental Construction Unit. You will underwrite pollution and professional policies with limited leadership guidance, pricing risk based on data, and collaborating across teams.

You’ll review submissions, analyze operations and contracts, and structure terms that balance customer needs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; environmental science or similar degree preferred.
• 3–5 years of Contractors Pollution Liability and combined form Pollution/Professional Liability underwriting experience with an environmental insurer, or 3–5 years brokerage experience placing these policies.
• Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Initiative and ability to work independently.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, stakeholders, and partners.

Responsibilities

• Leverage market presence and knowledge to develop and underwrite profitable business.
• Handle a substantial environmental pollution book of business.
• Gather underwriting information, review, analyze, price and document, new and assigned renewal Contractors Pollution Liability and combined form Pollution / Professional Liability.
• Prepare quotes and binders and review policies and endorsements for accuracy.
• Manage portfolio of brokers/agents and clients.
• Develop and support marketing strategies to increase submission flow (limited travel).
• Provide exceptional service to brokers by following workflow procedures on new and renewal business to achieve production and service goals.
• Drive new business submission and premium growth through strategic sales and cross-sell initiatives.
