Job summary

Berkadia is seeking a VP – Senior Underwriter, Agency Affordable Housing to lead underwriting of complex affordable multifamily transactions under Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac programs. You will collaborate with Origination, GPO, Closing, Servicing, and Legal to structure, underwrite, approve, and close deals to agency standards.

This role requires deep knowledge of agency housing programs, strong credit judgment, and the ability to mentor Analysts and Underwriters.

Qualifications

• Expert in underwriting and structuring Agency affordable multifamily transactions.
• Strong credit judgment; ability to identify and mitigate risks.
• Experience with rent/income restrictions, LIHTC, Section 8/HAP contracts, subsidies.
• Understanding of multifamily financial analysis and loan structuring.
• Ability to interpret affordability restrictions on cash flow and value.
• Strong transaction management with ability to manage multiple deals.
• Mentor and develop junior underwriting professionals.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with DCUW to follow Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac criteria.
• Review debt applications for compliance with program requirements.
• Underwrite complex affordable multifamily transactions including regulatory aspects.
• Assess borrower/sponsor creditworthiness and market conditions.
• Evaluate impact of affordability restrictions on operations and cash flow.
• Ensure compliance with Guides and required forms.
• Draft underwriting submissions articulating strengths, risks, and mitigants.
• Provide final review and closing support.
• Keep stakeholders informed of progress and risks.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship.
• Maintain knowledge of affordable housing programs and updates.
• Participate in training and process improvements.
• Other duties as assigned.
