(THIS IS A REMOTE POSITION)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Underwriter underwrites simple to more complex mortgage insurance application files for acceptable risk in accordance with company and industry/investor guidelines. The Senior Underwriter’s review and loan decision are based on a prudent and comprehensive credit risk assessment consistent with policy requirements. This position is remote however, the working hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (PST).

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Underwrite individual mortgage loan submissions within National MI, GSE, and established program approval guidelines. Productivity must meet department standards.
• Accurately review financial statements, credit reports and applicable ratios (i.e., Debt-to-income and Loan-to-value) to make underwriting decisions.
• Evaluate/examine transactions to judge accuracy and completeness.
• Independently ensure documents are consistent and uphold to company and investor/industry guidelines.
• Evaluate loan submissions to identify red flags using fraud detection techniques or refer to management as appropriate.
• Perform compliance reviews as applicable.
• Recommend and facilitate renegotiation of loan structure based on lending guidelines.
• Communicate directly with the Underwriting Manager/Director to gather information to make appropriate decisions.
• Document rationale with comments behind credit risk decisions.
• Provide leadership, direction, or training to team members and communicate performance feedback to Manager when applicable.
• Communicate with internal staff to maintain a high level of customer service.
• Develop timely flow of underwriting files and condition sign off to facilitate company turn times.
• Communicate effectively with Customers, Sales Advisors, Solution Center and other internal departments conveying accurate underwriting guideline and policy information in a timely manner.
• Perform ad hoc responsibilities, as needed.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of six years of mortgage underwriting experience required.
• Minimum of one year of remote underwriting experience.
• MI Risk experience preferred.
• Ability to understand and interpret Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP) findings.
• Ability to enforce credit policies while maintaining Lender relationships.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
• Strong customer service skills and values.
• Maintains confidentiality of information and uses information appropriately.
• May need National or State Licensing.

Base Salary Range: $79,700 - $101,600/year
