Job summary

XYZER in Reading, MA is seeking an Experienced Underground Transmission Engineer to lead and deliver underground transmission projects for utilities, data centers, and renewable energy interconnections.

You will manage a small team of engineers, develop specifications, perform routing and cost analyses, conduct field inspections, and coordinate with clients and subcontractors to keep projects on schedule. Travel 15–20% is expected, and the role is based in-office in Reading, MA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or electrical engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of underground distribution and/or transmission civil engineering/design experience.
• Strong knowledge of overhead and underground construction methods and electrical system equipment.
• Experience conducting underground field inspections.
• Familiarity with topographic mapping & surveying and subsurface utility locating procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small team of engineers and designers on underground transmission projects.
• Assist in business development and marketing activities related to project opportunities.
• Develop specifications and technical document packages for underground projects, including manhole and equipment installation and cable design.
• Lead routing analysis, cost estimation, and feasibility discussions for projects.
• Perform field inspections, measurements, and calculations for underground facilities.
• Prepare cable pulling and ampacity calculations, grounding and bonding schemes, and installation studies.
• Generate proposals, project cost estimates, and execution schedules.
• Engage with clients, subcontractors, and external personnel to drive project progress and communication.
