Job summary

Coastal Pipeline, Inc. is seeking an experienced Underground Utility Excavator Operator to lead trenching, pipe placement, and live infrastructure exposure on wet utility projects across Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

You will operate hydraulic tracked excavators, coordinate with foremen and ground spotters, and ensure safety and accuracy in trenching, shoring, and pipe installation, with 5–10 years of hands‑on experience and South Florida soil familiarity.

Qualifications

• 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience operating hydraulic excavators on underground wet utility projects.
• Deep knowledge of deep sewer trenching and waterline installations.
• Working knowledge of OSHA excavation standards and soil types.
• Proven safety and rigging expertise around high-risk utilities.
• Able to work outdoors in South Florida weather, lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Precision Utility Trenching: Operate hydraulic tracked excavators to dig trenches to exact line, depth, and slope specifications for potable water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and fire service lines.
• Live Utility Avoidance & Potholing: Safely identify, pothole, expose, and maneuver around active existing infrastructure following Sunshine State 811 safe-dig protocols.
• Trench Safety & Shoring Management: Oversee safe placement of trench safety boxes and shoring equipment in compliance with OSHA Subpart P.
• Pipe Rigging & Placement: Rig, hoist, and lower pipe and precast components using certified rigging.
• Bedding, Dewatering & Backfill Operations: Assist dewatering installations and backfill trenches to grade.
• Preventative Equipment Maintenance: Conduct daily pre/post-shift inspections and report defects.
• Ground Crew Communication: Maintain coordination with pipelayers and spotters using hand signals and radios.
