Job summary

Barnard Construction Company, Inc., based in Bozeman, Montana, is seeking a Lead Underground Estimator to join our Underground group. The role covers bidding on tunneling projects, shafts, and adits for subways, highways, utilities, and other infrastructure across North America.

You will work with bid teams and management to prepare competitive bid packages from drawings and specifications. The position requires an undergraduate engineering degree and 10+ years in heavy civil/underground work,

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in General, Mining, Civil, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering; equivalent construction-related experience considered.
• Minimum 10 years in heavy civil and/or Underground construction.
• Experience estimating bids for Underground projects (TBM, SE, Drill & Blast).
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• OSHA 10/30 certificates preferred.
• Willingness to work hard and deliver results.
• Ability to function as a team-builder/player.
• Experience with digital take-off and estimating software.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

Responsibilities

• Work with bid teams to develop estimates for large Underground projects.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of project bid, including measurement and payment.
• Review contract documents (drawings, specs, agreements, conditions).
• Prepare and review quantity takeoffs and material pricing.
• Assist in development and/or review of project schedules.
• Develop scopes of work for tender packages for subcontractors and suppliers.
• Coordinate with accounting and equipment departments on labor, equipment and tax costs.
• Coordinate with marketing to prepare and review proposals prior to submission.
