Job summary

Barnard Construction seeks a Lead Underground Estimator based in Bozeman, MT to manage bid activities for complex underground projects including tunneling. You will collaborate with bid teams and executive management to prepare comprehensive estimates and ensure compliance with project requirements.

Responsibilities include pre-bid participation, reviewing drawings and specs, building WBS, and coordinating with subcontractors and internal departments.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in General, Mining, Civil, Mechanical or Construction Engineering.
• 10+ years of heavy civil or underground construction experience.
• Experience estimating bids for underground projects (tunneling methods).
• Proficient with digital take-off and estimating software.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

Responsibilities

• Work with bid teams to develop estimates for large underground projects.
• Understand bid packages including measurement and payment.
• Review contract documents (drawings, specs, agreements, conditions).
• Prepare and review quantity takeoffs and material pricing.
• Assist in development or review of project schedules.
• Develop scopes of work for tender packages to subcontractors.
• Coordinate with accounting, equipment, marketing for costings and proposals.
