Job summary

SDSU Research Foundation seeks a student cybersecurity contractor in San Diego, CA, offering a 20-hour per week position with non-negotiable hourly pay. The role emphasizes hands-on support across risk assessment, incident response, and security monitoring under task orders.

Qualified undergraduates or graduates must meet specified coursework and seniority, and be able to work independently. Clearance and US residency are prerequisites.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate Level 3 and Graduate Level 1: Cyber Security and/or Computer Engineering major preferred; relevant majors such as Data Science and Software Engineering be suitable.
• Must have course work in the discipline requested on the task order Statement of Work.
• The student must be at the Senior level and able to accomplish 90% of the work independently.
• Graduate I: Bachelor's degree in the required discipline and able to accomplish a minimum of 50% of the task without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Risk assessment to identify and evaluate security risks and vulnerabilities within the organization’s systems and networks.
• Incident response plans to address security breaches and containment, eradication, and recovery.
• Security monitoring using SIEM tools.
• Penetration testing to identify weaknesses and recommend improvements.
• Vulnerability management and remediation prioritization.
• Policy development to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
• Employee training on cybersecurity awareness and safe practices.
• Access control management to protect sensitive data.
• Data encryption for data at rest and in transit.
