Job summary

The State Treasurer’s Office seeks a senior Unclaimed Property Claims Analyst who is detail‑oriented and inquisitive, passionate about returning unclaimed property to rightful owners. You will review and approve complex claims, research high‑risk cases, and assist the public in locating and claiming property.

The role includes backing up multiple functions, collaborating with partners, and contributing to outreach efforts. Strong communication and documentation are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Agency minimum requirements or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the general public and business partners.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve complex claims for payment within guidelines and perform in-depth research to ensure payment to the rightful owner.
  • Identify and research high-risk and potentially fraudulent claims; confirm validity of documents with claimants and partners as needed.
  • Assist the public via telephone, email, and in person to identify, locate, and claim unclaimed property; resolve escalated issues.
  • Back up core division functions and review work of other claims analysts as assigned; participate in outreach.

Job description

The State Treasurer’s Office is seeking an inquisitive and detail-oriented senior claims analyst in the Unclaimed Property Program (UPP) that is passionate about our mission of returning unclaimed property to its rightful owners.

As a Senior Unclaimed Property Claims Analyst your responsibilities will include:
  • Reviews and approves complex claims for payment, such as estate claims, business claims, and claims containing securities, within department guidelines. Performs in-depth research to ensure payment is made to the rightful property owner.
  • Identifies and researches high-risk and/or potentially fraudulent claims to provide recommendations for next steps. Reviews and confirms validity of the claim and legal documents submitted by claimants by reaching out to business partners and governmental entities as needed to ensure appropriate payment of funds.
  • Assists the general public via telephone, email and in person with identifying, locating and claiming unclaimed property. Assists with researching and resolving escalated customer issues.
  • Serves as a backup for several core functions within the division and participates in outreach opportunities and other initiatives to support the program. Reviews work of other claims analysts, as assigned.

Agency Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree and at least two years of relevant experience.

Excellent written and verbal skills are required. Ability to plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to established schedules and goals. Ability to multi-task and simultaneously navigate multiple on-line computer systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office products and adaptable to learning other proprietary computer systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Must be able to excel in an open work environment with moderate background noise. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for intermittent periods of time and able to reach, bend, and twist at the waist to perform filing, desk work and operate general office equipment. Must be able to safely lift and carry files and reports weighing up to 20 lbs. May require occasional in-state travel.

Preferred Requirements

At least two years of experience in claims auditing, mortgage/loan processing, reviewing legal documents or fraud detection in the financial services industry is preferred.
