Job summary

Blue Origin in Merritt Island, FL is seeking an experienced turbomachinery design engineer to lead the hands-on design, development, production, assembly, and testing of turbine and compressor components. You will create and refine drawings, specifications, and manuals, owning hardware through research to flight, and driving continuous improvement with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications include a B.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 8+ years in turbomachinery design with ASME

Qualifications

• B.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• 8+ years in design, development, testing, production, or assembly of turbomachinery components.
• Solid understanding of rotating machinery design fundamentals (turbines, impellers, housings, seals, bearings).
• Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and GD&T for complex rotating assemblies.
• Experience with aerospace materials and treatments; hardware fabrication and assembly processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on design, development, production, assembly, and testing of turbomachinery components.
• Develop and improve engineering drawings, specifications, processes, and design manuals.
• Own turbomachinery hardware across the lifecycle from research to flight.
• Provide dispositions for non-conforming hardware identified during manufacturing.
• Perform root cause analysis to support continuous improvement and cost reduction.
• Conduct turbomachinery design analyses including thermal and rotordynamics; collaborate with aerodynamics teams.
• Mentor design and manufacturing teammates in a collaborative environment.
