Job summary

Critical Energy in Hawthorne, CA, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own the next generation of power-generating turbines. You will drive concepts from design through production, collaborating with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Systems, and Field Ops to ensure successful deployment.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in mechanical design of complex machinery, strong fundamentals in fluids and thermodynamics, and hands-on experience with NX and FEA/CFD tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience on complex machinery.
• Strong fundamentals in statics, dynamics, fluids, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with FEA/CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS).
• Production-quality drawings with GD&T and machinist collaboration.
• Knowledge of 5-axis machining, additive, casting, forging, and gear processes.

Responsibilities

• Own detailed CAD models, layouts, and drawings for turbomachinery hardware.
• Validate designs with hand calculations and FEA/CFD tools.
• Collaborate with aero, fluid systems, electrical, materials, and test teams.
• Guide fabrication, assembly, and testing with machinists.
• Support field ops and feed learnings back into design.
• Maintain design documentation and BOMs.
• Develop concepts for new machines and fluid systems.
