Job summary

Nitsch Engineering seeks a Senior Transportation Planning Project Manager to join our Lawrence, MA office, with options for Boston or Worcester locations. You will lead transportation planning for local and state clients, drive project delivery, and expand municipal and regional services through business development.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Civil Engineering, 15+ years in transportation planning, and licensure (AICP or MA PE).

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering required.
  • AICP certification or MA Professional Engineer license within one year if not currently licensed in MA.
  • 15+ years of experience in transportation planning.
  • Experience in client management and project leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee transportation planning projects for local and state government clients.
  • Lead business development to expand municipal and regional transportation planning work.
  • Build relationships with MassDOT and regional planning agencies.
  • Staff and supervise the project team, including subconsultants; mentor staff.
  • Perform technical quality control reviews of work products.
  • Prepare milestone and final submissions.
  • Manage feasibility studies, Vision Zero plans, and corridor studies.
  • Lead public involvement and community outreach efforts.
  • Oversee preparation of transportation planning and engineering reports.
  • Represent Nitsch Engineering at conferences and professional organizations.
  • Lead and advocate for staff professional development.

Job description

Nitsch Engineering is seeking a Senior Transportation Planning Project Manager to join our team at one of our three Massachusetts offices: Boston, Worcester, or Lawrence. As we continue to grow our market share, we strive to position ourselves and build on our successful model of client delivery by expanding our transportation engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee all aspects of transportation planning projects for local and state government clients (MassDOT, City of Boston, Municipal Agencies, and regional transportation planning agencies)
  • Lead business development efforts to expand municipal client base, and expand Transportation Planning work at the regional and state level
  • Develop and maintain relationships with MassDOT Office of Transportation Planning staff, and at regional transportation planning agencies (i.e. MAPC, NMCOG, CMRPC, etc.)
  • Staff and supervise the project team (including subconsultants), coordinating their efforts, mediating any disagreements, mentoring staff, and making decisions which reflect the best interest of both the company and its clients
  • Perform technical quality control reviews
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of milestone and final submissions
  • Manage Transportation Feasibility Studies, Safety Action Plans, Conceptual Design Development and Alternative Analysis, Vision Zero Plans, and Corridor Studies
  • Lead public involvement and community outreach efforts
  • Oversee the preparation of Transportation Planning and engineering reports
  • Develop new business and serve as the face of Nitsch for conferences and professional organizations
  • Lead and advocate for the professional development of existing staff
Requirements
  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • AICP certification, OR Massachusetts Professional Engineer License (or the ability to obtain one within one year if currently licensed in another state)
  • 15+ years of experience in Transportation Planning
  • Knowledge of project management roles and responsibilities and a history of successful client management
  • Ability to see the big picture and create staffing plans to adequately staff both current and future projects
  • Experience in performing and overseeing analysis and design, preparing calculations, developing details, preparing specifications and estimates as well as managing the preparation of bid documents is required
  • Understanding of project metrics, including scope, budget, multiplier, additional service needs, and programs used to track metrics
  • Experience with construction administration services including interpreting design intent, evaluating construction for compliance with contract documents, and directing of engineering support personnel
  • Experience in preparing proposals, business development, and the ability to make public presentations
