Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Transportation Planner in East London to lead the creation of sustainable transport plans for urban and regional areas. You will guide studies, run modeling, and engage with clients, government bodies, and communities to shape mobility and reduce congestion.

The role requires a Master’s in a related field and 7+ years of experience, with strong skills in transportation software, policy, and land use planning within the South African context.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required in Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in transportation planning and analysis.
• Proficiency in transportation planning software (PTV Vissim, TransCAD, ArcGIS) is essential.
• Strong understanding of transport economics, policy, and land use planning principles.
• Excellent analytical, report writing, and presentation skills.
• Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and public consultation processes.
• Ability to manage project components and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of the South African transportation context and regulatory framework.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of comprehensive transportation plans and strategies.
• Conduct transportation modeling and demand forecasting using specialized software.
• Perform feasibility studies for public transport routes, road networks, and traffic management schemes.
• Analyze traffic data and prepare reports on traffic operations and safety.
• Engage with clients, government agencies, and community groups to gather input and present findings.
• Develop recommendations for infrastructure improvements and policy changes.
• Prepare proposals and assist in securing new planning and engineering projects.
• Mentor junior transportation planners and engineers.
• Ensure plans comply with relevant national and provincial planning legislation and standards.
