The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Transportation Engineer 4 to serve as the North Central Region’s Signal and ITS Operations Engineer. You will lead traffic signal timing plans, adaptive operations, and ITS maintenance to improve safety and mobility.

Responsibilities include reviewing designs, coordinating with local agencies, and advancing Transportation Systems Management and Operations initiatives across the region.

Qualifications

• Traffic engineering principles, signal operations, timing and coordination.
• Experience in design/implementation/maintenance of Traffic Signal and ITS.
• Proficiency in Internet protocols and networking principles.
• Ability to coordinate projects with technical staff and managers.
• Clear technical communication with staff and external partners.
• Experience applying standards, policies, and procedures in transportation tech projects.
• Ability to set direction and prioritize work to align with agency goals.
• Experience reading plans and general specifications.
• Ability to manage essential network-based systems for reliability and security.

Responsabilités

• Design, develop, review, and implement traffic signal timing plans and adaptive operations.
• Evaluate and approve timing plans and resolve complex traffic signal issues.
• Review signal designs for compliance with standards.
• Coordinate with Traffic, Signals Maintenance, local agencies, and consultants.
• Monitor and maintain ITS hardware/software and coordinate maintenance.
• Develop and implement TSMO strategies with regional teams.
• Support TMC operations by monitoring performance and mitigating impacts.
• Provide technical expertise in signal, ITS, and network systems for projects and training.
