Job Summary

AKS’ public works team in Tualatin, Oregon, is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to lead and support transportation project delivery across the Northwest region. This role offers the opportunity to work on infrastructure projects, contribute to strategic business development, and grow professionally. The ideal candidate will be a registered professional with strong technical knowledge in transportation design and leadership skills, collaborating with surveyors, scientists, engineers, and construction teams. Candidate Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• At least 7 years of experience in roadway engineering design.
• Experience with urban and rural highways, intersection design, traffic management, and related projects.
• Proven ability to prepare reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for roadway projects.
• Effective coordination with public agencies and project teams.
• Leadership skills, including mentoring junior staff.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, or AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
• Knowledge of national guidelines (AASHTO, MUTCD) and DOT standards.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with DOT, County, or Municipal projects.
• Coordination of survey, grading, drainage, utilities, and environmental aspects.
• Familiarity with ODOT Hydraulics Manual and USACE slope standards.
• Experience as a field engineer or inspector.
• Public speaking skills for stakeholder engagement.

Job Functions and Responsibilities

The senior transportation engineer will handle tasks related to roadway and multimodal projects, possibly serving as a Project Manager or Engineer. Responsibilities include designing roadway elements, preparing plans, performing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, quality assurance, project management, stakeholder coordination, reporting, business development, and mentoring staff. The role requires proactive engagement and adaptability.
