Senior Transportation Engineer - Raleigh, NC

Responsibilities

• Play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, and implementation of roadway projects, ensuring strict adherence to NC DOT regulations and standards.
• Utilize your technical proficiency and familiarity with NC DOT policies and procedures to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable roadway solutions.
• Participate in diverse roadway design and transportation projects, including data collection, alignment establishment, engineering calculations, and plan preparation.

Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency with design-related software such as MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Geopak, and Corridor Modeler; proficiency in Word and Excel is required.
• Ability to read and interpret surveys, drawings, and legal descriptions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction at all organizational levels.
• Ability to complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision, emphasizing client service.
• Motivated to learn and grow professionally in a supportive team environment.
• Experience with Design-Bid-Build projects is a valuable asset.
• Strong organizational, project, and time management skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the US and able to pass pre-employment screening. ICE is a drug-free workplace.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
• At least 10 years of engineering experience in transportation/design, with strong roadway design skills.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification or EIT with 5+ years of related experience.
• Experience with NC DOT systems, policies, and procedures.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position primarily involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. Employees may occasionally lift lightweight supplies and materials, typically under 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors with controlled temperatures and minimal adverse conditions. Visual and auditory discernment are necessary, along with effective communication skills. The role requires adaptability to workflow interruptions and the ability to sit for extended periods.

Expected Hours of Work

Work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an unpaid lunch hour. Schedules may vary according to project needs. This is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office five days a week.
