Job description

AKS’ public works team in Keizer, Oregon, is looking for a Senior Transportation Engineer to help us grow our transportation project delivery group. This opening is an opportunity to lead and support exciting transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Northwest region, while also focusing on strategic business development efforts. Your technical knowledge of transportation design and leadership within the team will be vital as we continue to build the company as well as maintain and grow client relationships. This opening is ideal for a registered professional who can take the lead on design and delivery of transportation projects, working with our in-house surveyors, natural resource scientists, engineers, and construction team to support your efforts. Candidate Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design.
  • Experience should include urban and rural highways, intersection design, traffic management, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout, and base alignment plans.
  • Proven responsibility in preparing reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for multidiscipline roadway design projects.
  • Experience coordinating effectively with public agency staff and teaming partners on multidiscipline engineering projects.
  • Leadership skills, including organizing and training junior staff.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, and/or AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge of major guidelines (e.g., AASHTO, MUTCD) and DOT standards.
Experience
  • Previous DOT, County, or Municipal experience.
  • Experience with survey, grading, drainage, utilities, environmental, geotechnical, and natural resources in transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with Oregon DOT Hydraulics Manual and USACE Slopes V standards.
  • Experience as a field engineer/inspector on public infrastructure projects.
  • Confidence in public speaking before diverse audiences.
Job Functions and Responsibilities

The senior transportation engineer will be responsible for tasks related to roadway and multimodal projects supporting various government agencies. The role may include serving as a Project Manager or Engineer, with opportunities for growth and additional responsibilities.

  • Design roadway/highway projects following local or AASHTO standards.
  • Develop plans for roadway, drainage, utilities, paving, signage, and traffic control.
  • Perform stormwater engineering, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, and collaborate with water resources engineers.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of project deliverables.
  • Manage project scope, budget, schedule, and coordination.
  • Coordinate with agencies, consultants, stakeholders, and other disciplines.
  • Write reports and technical memoranda.
  • Assist with business development activities.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
