Job Summary

AKS’ public works team in Tualatin, Oregon, is looking for a Senior Transportation Engineer to help us grow our transportation project delivery group. This position offers an opportunity to lead and support transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Northwest region, focusing on strategic business development. Your technical expertise in transportation design and leadership will be vital as we expand our company and maintain client relationships. We empower our staff with resources to pursue roadway project opportunities. This role is ideal for a registered professional capable of leading transportation project design and delivery, collaborating with surveyors, scientists, engineers, and construction teams. Candidate Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in roadway engineering design.
  • Experience with urban and rural highways, intersection design, traffic management, concept alignments, geometrical layouts, and base plans.
  • Proven responsibility in preparing reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for multidiscipline roadway projects.
  • Experience coordinating with public agencies and team members for project delivery.
  • Leadership skills, including organizing and mentoring junior staff.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, and/or AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO, MUTCD, and DOT design standards.
Experience
  • Previous DOT, County, or Municipal experience.
  • Experience with survey, grading, drainage, utilities, environmental, geotechnical, and natural resources in transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with Oregon DOT Hydraulics Manual and USACE Slopes V standards.
  • Experience as a field engineer/inspector on public infrastructure projects.
  • Confidence in public speaking to diverse audiences.
Job Functions and Responsibilities

The senior transportation engineer will manage tasks for roadway and multimodal projects supporting State DOTs, Counties, Cities, and municipalities. The role may include serving as Project Manager or Engineer, interfacing with clients, and mentoring staff. Responsibilities include:

  • Design roadway/highway projects using local or AASHTO standards, including alignments, sections, intersections, sight distance, drainage, and ADA ramps.
  • Develop roadway plans, profiles, drainage, utilities, paving, signing, and traffic control plans.
  • Perform stormwater engineering, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, grading, and design services, collaborating with water resources engineers as needed.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of deliverables.
  • Develop project scope, budget, schedule, and manage internal coordination.
  • Coordinate with agencies, consultants, stakeholders, and other disciplines.
  • Prepare reports and technical memoranda.
  • Assist in business development activities.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
