• Performs professional transportation engineering work in field and office; may act as resident engineer.
• Makes presentations to public/private/government bodies with technical data and advice.
• Prepares staff reports and complex project documents.

Job description

Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Capital Projects, the Senior Transportation Engineer prepares, manages, and performs complex professional transportation engineering and public works duties in the field and office, including work involving structures, drainage, railway facilities, roadways, highways, bikeways, walkways, and intersections. The position is responsible for project management and delivery of capital improvements, construction administration, complex transportation engineering analyses and studies, and other related work as required.

• Serves as project manager for the most complex regional priority projects that the RTC is responsible fordelivering under Measure D, State Transportation Improvement Program, and other funding sources, incoordination with partner agencies to ensure timely and cost effective project delivery and compliance with allregulatory and funding requirements.
• Leads consultant selection and contract management efforts on assigned projects including: requests forproposals, advertisements for bids, instructions to bidders, detailed specifications or scopes of work, contractbudgets, invoice review and task management;
• Mentors and provides technical engineering assistance to professional staff; serves in a supervisory role on anas-needed basis;
• Contributes policy recommendations relating to strategic agency priorities;
• Prepares or oversees consultant preparation of preliminary studies, reports, designs, calculations, cost estimates,maps, and plans;
• Performs professional transportation engineering work in the field and office on a variety of complex projects;may act as resident engineer on construction projects.
• Makes presentations before public, private or government decision-making bodies, providing technicalinformation, data, and expert advice;
• Prepares staff reports, memos, correspondence, consultant or contractor procurement docuements, complex and comprehensive project reports, and other written materials.
