Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Transmission Systems Engineer to support high‑voltage transmission planning, design and operation in East London, Eastern Cape. You will analyze power flow, perform short‑circuit and stability studies, and help specify lines, substations and protection schemes.

The role requires a BEng in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) and at least 6 years of relevant experience, with proficiency in PSS/E, ETAP or PowerWorld.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a power systems specialization.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in transmission system planning, design, or operations.
• Strong understanding of power system fundamentals, high-voltage equipment, and protection principles.
• Proficiency in power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, PowerWorld).
• Experience with transmission line design and substation engineering is essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform power flow, short circuit, and stability analyses for the HV transmission system.
• Design and specify transmission lines, substations, and associated equipment.
• Develop and maintain protection schemes for the transmission network.
• Evaluate the impact of new generation sources and load growth on system reliability and capacity.
• Collaborate with grid operators, planning teams, and construction departments on upgrades and new projects.
• Ensure compliance with national grid codes, standards, and regulations.
• Troubleshoot system disturbances and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare technical reports, studies, and project documentation.
• Assist in commissioning and testing of new transmission assets.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in power transmission systems.
