Job summary

Tucson Electric Power Company in Tucson, AZ, seeks a Transmission Planning Engineer to develop WECC base cases, perform contingency analyses, and coordinate with WECC, regulators, and internal teams for reliable, compliant transmission planning.

The role covers long-range planning, interconnection studies, and advancement of EHV/HV facilities. BS in EE or related field required; familiarity with power flow and stability tools essential; travel to support the department expected.

Qualifications

BS in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
MS in Electrical Engineering or related technical field preferred.
Experience with power flow and stability programs required.
Ability to travel to support the department is required.
Strong written and verbal communication is essential.

Responsibilities

Develops long range transmission plans in compliance with NERC Planning Standards, WECC System Performance Criteria, and TEP requirements.
Develops and evaluates requirements, specifications, and optimum alternatives for EHV and HV transmission and substation facilities for planning and budgeting purposes.
Coordinates with Engineering, System Control & Reliability, Engineering Project Management, Land & Environmental to facilitate understanding of transmission issues and develop feasible solutions.
Develops and updates TEP's EHV and HV transmission planning process and guidelines for long term planning.
Performs engineering analysis of future EHV and HV transmission requirements.
Develops and maintains expertise in NERC Planning Standards, WECC Criteria, and TEP requirements.
Develops and maintains expertise in power flow, transient and voltage stability and related applications.
Performs transmission system studies related to generator and transmission interconnection requests.
Performs administrative duties associated with maintaining generator interconnection cluster.
Coordinates on development and testing of models for use in power flow and stability analyses.
Performs review and commissioning of grid interconnections for renewable technologies.
Provides data timely and accurately.
Participates in regional transmission planning activities with WECC and other utilities.
Provides technical support for Open Access Transmission Tariff.
Develops tools to increase efficiency in study processes.
Support Line Siting activities with technical studies and project justification.
Provide technical support to Economic Development group to attract large customers in Tucson.
Trains and assists new personnel within the section.
Reports to Transmission Planning Manager or Supervisor.
