Job summary

1898 & Co., a division of Burns & McDonnell, seeks Transmission Planning Consultants to support a nationwide consulting practice. You will perform a broad set of planning studies, apply advanced engineering tools, and advise clients on generation retirements, renewable integration, and regulatory compliance.

You will work alongside project managers and multidisciplinary teams, delivering data-driven solutions, reports, and client presentations, while mentoring junior staff and growing

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program or 3 years related experience.
• Master degree in Engineering or Business and 2 years experience or PhD with 1 year experience.
• Experience with power system planning, operations, NERC/FERC/Regional requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication; proven leadership of consultants.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of transmission planning studies (power flow, transient stability, etc.).
• Execute studies using industry tools (PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP/ATP, SKM, ETAP, Promod).
• Assess compliance with NERC, FERC, and regional requirements.
• Develop technical reports and client-facing presentations of results.
• Support project managers with technical execution and client deliverables.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to methodology improvements.
• Collaborate across internal practices and other business lines.
• Travel to client sites as needed.
