Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Dallas seeks a Transmission Planning Consultant to apply extensive grid planning knowledge to assess performance and readiness for retirements and renewables integration. You will lead planning studies, perform data analysis, and develop client-ready reports.

This role requires ABET-accredited engineering credentials with relevant experience, strong software skills (PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, Promod), and the ability to collaborate across teams to deliver

Qualifications

ABET-accredited engineering degree with 3+ years related experience.
Master's in Engineering or Business with 2+ years experience required.
PhD in Engineering with 1+ year experience preferred.
Experience with electric utility operations, planning, or consulting.
Experience with power system planning and operations; NERC, FERC, and regional requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform a broad range of transmission planning studies (power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short-circuit, voltage analysis).
Evaluate regulatory conditions and risks per NERC, FERC, and regional requirements.
Independently execute planning studies using industry software (PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, Promod).
Develop technical reports and client presentations summarizing results.
Support business development activities including proposals and client relationships.
Travel as needed to support project delivery.
