Job summary

Qualifications

• 7+ years of detailed engineering and design experience for overhead transmission lines.
• Lead and oversee complex transmission line designs from conceptual through final design.
• Provide senior-level technical direction to design staff for accuracy and best practices.
• Perform studies such as conductor sizing, impedance, losses, and voltage drop per standards.
• Interpret regulatory requirements including NERC, FERC, and regional standards.
• Prepare and review specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings and recommendations.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Transmission Line Engineer to support the design, analysis, and execution of high-voltage electric transmission infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have experience designing overhead and/or underground transmission lines ranging from 69kV through 765kV and possess a strong understanding of utility standards, industry codes, and engineering best practices.

This role will work closely with utility clients, project managers, civil engineers, structural engineers, survey teams, and permitting organizations to develop reliable, cost-effective transmission solutions. The position offers the flexibility of working remotely while supporting projects across North America

Minimum Job requirements Include:

• 7+ Year experience performing detailed engineering and design of overhead transmission lines and associated facilities.
• Lead and oversee complex transmission line designs from conceptual engineering through final design, including EFM, conductor sizing, induction, impedance, losses, and voltage drop analysis.
• Provide senior‑level technical expertise and direction to design staff, ensuring technical accuracy, best practices, and industry‑leading design solutions.
• Perform key engineering studies such as conductor economic evaluations, lightning performance, grounding calculations, and electrical clearance determinations per NESC and applicable standards.
• Interpret and apply regulatory requirements including NERC, FERC, and regional standards, and ensure compliance across project deliverables.
• Prepare and review technical documentation such as specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings, and purchase recommendations.
• Collaborate with project managers on scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, construction support, and change order management.
• Perform and review QA/QC for engineering deliverables, production drawings, CAD outputs, and construction administration activities, resolving design‑related field issues.
• Conduct and lead field inspections, measurements, calculations, and installation reviews for both public and private clients.
• Develop and present technical reports, support marketing and business development efforts, and build strong relationships with clients and contractors.
• Provide mentorship, leadership, and guidance to less experienced engineers, ensuring effective cross‑discipline communication and adherence to company safety, quality, and performance standards.

Insight Global is hiring multiple candidates for this role so candidates pay may vary based on level of experience and expertise, depth of knowledge, and clearance level among other factors; but we anticipate paying 135K - 180K for this role as well as provide a comprehensive benefits and 401k packages.
