Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced Transmission Line Engineer in the Port Reading, NJ area. The role involves designing 69kV–500kV transmission lines, performing cost analyses, and coordinating routing, siting, and procurement with clients and vendors.

With a BS from an ABET‑accredited program and 7+ years of related experience, you will review rights‑of‑way, sag/tension calculations, and construction docs while leveraging PLS‑CADD and related tools.

Qualifications

• BS degree from ABET‑accredited engineering program.
• Proficiency with PLS‑CADD software to review transmission line models.
• 7+ years of experience in transmission line design, cost estimate development, scheduling, specification preparation, procurement, construction coordination, and liaison with construction teams.
• Knowledge to verify and review right‑of‑way requirements, conductor sag/tension calculations, plan and profile drawings, and construction documents.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans, drawings, and models.
• Experience in writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations.
• Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 500kV range.
• Conduct cost analyses, develop design criteria, and manage routing and siting of transmission lines.
• Perform conductor selection studies, shielding, grounding, and induction studies.
• Work with vendors and clients to specify transmission line components.
• Work with a diverse client base and interact with the client and other project teams.
• Travel occasionally for site visits and client meetings.
• Develop proposals and cost estimates for new work.
