Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Principal Transmission Engineer to lead a staff of designers and engineers in transmission design, cost estimation, and client communication.

The role focuses on maintaining high-quality work products and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. You will supervise, mentor, and coordinate with internal teams and clients, while advancing projects across transmission, substations, and related energy infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural or Electrical from an ABET-accredited program.
• Active PE licensure.
• 10+ years of experience in Power Transmission Design.
• Supervisory experience managing engineers and technicians while maintaining quality.
• Knowledge of overhead and underground transmission facilities.
• Familiarity with NESC, ASCE, IEEE standards.
• Proficiency in PLS-CADD, MFAD, AutoCAD, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Supervise technical staff in the preparation of utility engineering designs, cost estimates, and customer billing.
• Manage schedules and assign projects and daily work to staff.
• Mentor staff on engineering principles and safe, compliant practices.
• Instruct staff on company policies and safety requirements.
• Oversee use of software and company tools by staff.
• Provide guidance for professional communication with stakeholders.
• Coordinate design reviews before submissions.
• Evaluate staff performance and development.
• Collaborate with managers to implement new policies reflecting best practices.
• Collaborate with other departments on company initiatives.
• Perform Transmission Engineering Manager duties in their absence.
• Maintain relationships with current clients and pursue new business opportunities.
