Job description

Here's The Role

We are looking for an experienced Transmission Line Engineer to join our team and help deliver a growing portfolio of critical transmission infrastructure projects. In this role, you will serve as the engineering lead for projects primarily designed by external engineering consultants, providing technical direction and oversight from initial scoping through design, construction, and project closeout. You will work closely with our outsourcing partners and internal collaborators to identify project constraints, resolve technical challenges, and keep projects moving forward. This position offers the opportunity to lead sophisticated transmission projects, influence engineering standards and processes, and play an important role in the successful expansion and reliability of our transmission system.

How You’ll Contribute
  • Serve as the transmission line engineering lead for capital projects from initial scoping and project development through design, construction, and closeout.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to external engineering consultants, ensuring designs meet project requirements, engineering standards, safety expectations, and applicable codes.
  • Review engineering work, including PLS-CADD transmission line models, structure calculations, drawings, specifications, material requirements, and IFC design prints.
  • Coordinate with Project Management, Construction, Substation Engineering, Real Estate, Planning, Environmental and other interested parties to identify and resolve project constraints.
  • Provide engineering support during construction by responding to RFIs, evaluating field conditions, reviewing design changes, and developing practical solutions to keep projects progressing.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of transmission line engineering standards, design practices, consultant workflows, and project execution processes.
How You’re Qualified
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
  • Eight or more years of post-Bachelors engineering experience relating to the area of engineering specialization required to perform the job, including providing technical leadership in engineering.
  • Driver's license
How You’ll Stand Out
  • Demonstrated experience with overhead transmission line engineering, including line routing, structure design, clearances, foundations, material selection, and transmission line design criteria.
  • Experience leading or providing technical guidance of engineering work performed by external consultants on sophisticated capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of PLS-CADD and related transmission line engineering software, as well as applicable NESC requirements and industry standards.
  • Ability to independently evaluate sophisticated engineering problems, identify project risks and constraints, and develop practical solutions that balance technical, construction, schedule, and cost considerations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively coordinate across engineering subject areas, construction teams, project managers, consultants, and other partners.
  • A proactive approach to leadership, including mentoring less-experienced engineers, improving engineering standards and processes, sharing technical knowledge, and taking ownership of projects from development through construction.
