Job summary

General Motors is seeking a seasoned Manufacturing/Assembly Process Engineer to design, build, and qualify assembly equipment for transmission and drive unit manufacturing. You will lead equipment projects from concept through production, collaborating with internal teams and external vendors to deliver robust solutions.

The role focuses on cost estimation, scheduling, safety, quality, and launch readiness, with up to 25% travel and a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of assembly or machining process development experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on plant floor experience with strong technical process knowledge.
• Solid understanding of high-volume manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Experience managing equipment development through design, build, installation, and launch.
• Ability to work with internal teams and external vendors to deliver manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, build, and implement machinery, tooling, and equipment for assembly processes.
• Lead design, construction, installation, launch, and continuous improvement of equipment and tools.
• Source and qualify assembly equipment and processes from concept through production.
• Develop cost estimates and manage program timing and spending.
• Provide technical leadership to suppliers and vendors.
• Develop, test, and implement advanced manufacturing process technologies.
• Create core manufacturing documentation (PFD, PFMEA, PCP, BOE/BOP).
• Apply GD&T to meet product design requirements and ensure safety, quality, and efficiency.
