Job summary

CDM Smith Inc. in Chicago seeks a Transit Facility Structural Design Lead to act as the senior technical authority for structural design of transit infrastructure.

You will own design delivery, lead multidisciplinary teams, and ensure permit-ready construction documents for projects in active urban environments. The role requires PE licensure, 10 years’ related experience, and willingness to travel domestically focusing on CTA/Metra-type clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering; PE license required.
• 10 years of related experience; willing to travel domestically or internationally.
• Experience leading transit facility design and multi-disciplinary projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design of transit infrastructure projects in urban environments.
• Act as Engineer of Record and sign/seal calculations and drawings when required.
• Provide technical leadership across architecture, civil, systems, and operations teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and oversee day-to-day structural efforts.
• Coordinate with project managers on staffing, budgets, and schedules.
• Support proposals, client meetings, and development of fee scopes.
