Job summary

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. (VHB) seeks an Engineering Technical Lead for Transit & Rail to guide a team of engineers and deliver complex projects, including MSA/GEC/TO contracts, design-build pursuits, ADA packages, and corridor improvements.

The role combines technical leadership, mentorship, and business growth in a collaborative, people-focused environment. Hybrid work in Philadelphia, PA or Lansdale, PA.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering or Railway Engineering; M.S. preferred.
• 11+ years of experience in engineering, construction, or transit/rail.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Experience with PMIS platforms like e-Builder or SharePoint.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Familiarity with AREMA, FRA, FTA, and APTA guidelines.
• Experience with Amtrak, SEPTA, DRPA, PATCO, NJ Transit, or NY MTA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and design oversight for rail and transit projects.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary interface points to ensure integration.
• Plan construction sequencing and schedules with operations teams.
• Implement QA/QC programs, ITPs, testing, and qualification oversight.
• Review submittals, RFIs, material approvals, NCRs, and construction docs.
• Support project controls: schedule, cost, risk, change, and progress reporting.
• Provide direction to contractors and resolve field issues.
• Lead testing and commissioning, including track geometry acceptance and signaling integration.
• Maintain PE license and sign/seal plans.
• Represent VHB in meetings with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
