Job description

Senior Transit Architectural

STV, a leading architecture and engineering firm, is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Senior Transit Architectural to join our team in the heart of New York, NY.

In this role, you will work on innovative projects that will shape the future of transportation and the communities it serves.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include working with and coordinating a multidisciplinary architectural/engineering team in developing designs and preparing documents for projects focused on transportation, especially transit. The ideal candidate will support projects over the full lifecycle from initial design phases through the detailed construction document phase, requiring interface and collaboration with various disciplines, clients, and consultants.

  • Prepare architectural plans and/or supervise their execution.
  • Perform analysis of design and construction systems, planning studies, design layouts, and construction details.
  • Oversee research used in writing specifications, including coordinating with manufacturers.
  • Conduct site and construction inspections for information-gathering purposes and prepare interpretive reports.
  • Execute code analysis, material selections, and technical solutions.
  • Develop design layouts and construction features, researching, compiling, and recording information for assigned project work.
  • Coordinate and manage work with other disciplines, planning, scheduling, and overseeing project execution.
Required Experience
  • Professional degree in architecture (M. Arch preferred).
  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience as a project architect in the rail/transit sector.
  • Experience in the transportation sector is required.
  • Transit architecture design experience, including stations and related facilities, is required.
  • Registered licensed architect in the State of New York is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with OpenBuildings, Rhino, 3-D Max, Sketch‑up, and LEED accreditation is a plus.
  • Excellent design, technical detailing, and strong presentation skills, both verbal and visual, are essential.
  • Self‑starter with a passion for problem‑solving, understanding of teamwork, and a firm focus on client needs.
Essential Duties
  • Determine collectively with multiple design disciplines the technical approach and design criteria for projects.
  • Lead and coach architectural staff.
  • Perform independent investigations, studies, and architectural analysis.
  • Develop design details, plans, and specifications.
  • Serve as a quality‑control reviewer.
  • Use computer software as a design tool for solving complex architectural problems.
  • Contribute new designs or techniques of material significance in solving important problems.
  • Remain current in codes and technologies applicable to the architecture discipline (e.g., IBC, NFPA).
  • Ensure conformance with standards, established architectural practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction.
  • Conduct construction administration activities, including review of shop drawings and Requests for Information (RFIs).
Compensation Range

$149,671.54 – $171,053.19
