Job summary

State of Illinois is seeking a Traffic Signal Engineer (Civil Engineer III) in Peoria. The role focuses on safe, efficient design and operation of district traffic signal systems, ITS, and highway lighting.

You will develop timing plans, review consultant work, and liaise with railroads and regulatory agencies to ensure compliant projects. The position requires a BS in engineering and at least 37 months of civil experience; licensure options are outlined.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited BS in engineering or equivalent licensure path in Illinois.
• Minimum of 37 months of civil engineering experience.
• If GPA is below 2.5, must have licensure path (EI/PE/Structural).
• Preferred: ability to supervise contractors and strong written/oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide expertise for safe and efficient design and operation of district traffic signal, ITS, and highway lighting systems.
• Develop/update timing plans for in-house projects and contribute to design specifications.
• Review SCAT consultants' work and guide signal design consultants.
• Design traffic signal, ITS, and highway lighting plans per BDE policies.
• Liaise with railroads, FRA, ICC and local governments.
• Implement safety rules and ensure compliance and teamwork.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
