Alta Planning + Design in Oakland, CA seeks a Traffic Engineer III to lead multimodal analysis, safety studies, and design tasks for sustainable transportation projects. You will mentor junior staff, develop cost estimates, and ensure adherence to standards while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications

• Requires 5+ years as a traffic engineer in a consulting or public entity.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Proficiency in Synchro, Vistro, VISSIM, SIDRA, or similar tools.
• Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support conceptual design plans and engineering-backed recommendations with safety, planning, and design teams.
• Conduct multimodal traffic engineering analyses including operations, safety, corridor/intersection studies, and modeling.
• Prepare traffic signal timing and retiming evaluations and support implementation.
• Develop cost estimates for safety, planning, and engineering projects.
• Develop traffic signal plans, street lighting plans, ITS design, signing/striping layouts, TCPs, and PS&E using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Collaborate with engineers and planners to integrate bicycle, pedestrian, transit, and safety enhancements.
