Job summary

Fishbeck's Transportation team in Michigan seeks a Traffic Engineer to lead comprehensive design projects from concept to construction. You will ensure compliance with MDOT standards, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with clients and agencies to deliver high-quality solutions.

Candidates should have a Civil Engineering degree and 10+ years of traffic engineering experience, with MDOT projects and a Michigan PE license preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 10+ years of traffic engineering experience, including MDOT-related projects.
  • Michigan Professional Engineer license required.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation; AutoCAD/Civil 3D a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of MDOT traffic standards and guidelines.
  • Experience with Highway Capacity Software and Synchro; TransModeler a plus.
  • Familiarity with ITE Trip Generation Manual and complex MOT design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of traffic engineering components, including maintenance of traffic plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, and traffic signal systems.
  • Ensure project work complies with MDOT standards, the Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and applicable design guidelines.
  • Conduct traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization, and traffic forecasting.
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and construction cost estimates.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.
  • Mentor and support junior staff while coordinating with other disciplines and regional offices.
  • Collaborate with clients, local agencies, and contractors to deliver high-quality solutions.

Working with our Transportation team in Michigan, you will lead complex transportation design projects from concept through construction, support client relationships, mentor junior staff, and help grow Fishbeck’s Michigan transportation practice.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For
