Job summary

Fishbeck in Indiana seeks a Traffic Engineer to lead transportation design projects from concept to construction, support client relationships, and mentor junior staff as we grow our Indiana transportation practice.

This full-time role can be based in Indianapolis, Terre Haute, or Greencastle, IN, with hybrid schedules and a benefits package including health/dental/vision, tuition reimbursement, generous PTO, and a 401(k) with stock ownership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10+ years of traffic engineering experience, including INDOT projects.
• Indiana Professional Engineer license required.
• Proficiency in MicroStation; AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of INDOT standards and guidelines.
• Experience with Highway Capacity Software and Synchro; TransModeler is a plus.
• Familiarity with the ITE Trip Generation Manual, complex maintenance of traffic design, and traffic studies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with ITS and highway lighting design is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of traffic engineering components, including maintenance of traffic plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, and traffic signal systems.
• Ensure project work complies with INDOT standards, the Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and applicable design guidelines.
• Conduct traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization, and traffic forecasting.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and construction cost estimates.
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.
• Mentor and support junior staff while coordinating with other disciplines and regional offices.
• Collaborate with clients, local agencies, and contractors to deliver high-quality solutions.
