Job summary

Stanley Consultants, Inc. seeks a Senior Traffic Engineer to support our Traffic Engineering and Safety practices, primarily based in our Des Moines office, with strong consideration for Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, or Muscatine.

You will lead traffic and safety projects, design signal and roadway plans, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with agencies and clients across offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree is a plus.
• 8–10 years of traffic engineering, transportation planning, safety, and/or ITS experience.
• Iowa Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Familiarity with MUTCD, Iowa DOT standards.
• Proficiency with traffic analysis software; VISSIM is a plus.
• ITE membership or equivalent professional organizations.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Project Manager, Project Lead, or Task Lead on traffic and safety projects.
• Design and prepare traffic signal plans for intersections, including sequencing, markings, signing, and traffic control plans.
• Design and prepare roadway lighting plans and ITS infrastructure.
• Conduct traffic impact studies and safety analyses, including signal warrant analysis and intersection design studies.
• Provide technical guidance and perform quality control reviews for studies and designs.
• Mentor junior engineers and support cross-office collaboration with agency representatives and clients.
