Job Title : Staff Accountant

Location : Columbus, OH (Hybrid : 2-3 days in office)

Reports To : CFO

Our company is a high-growth startup specializing in gluten-free, better-for-you natural waffles with four delicious SKUs, including seasonal varieties. As we continue to scale, we are seeking a strategic and hands-on Staff Accountant to oversee our finances and support our rapid expansion. Position Overview :

The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in managing our financial health, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, overseeing budgeting and forecasting, and maintaining robust internal controls. This role is perfect for an experienced financial professional who thrives in a dynamic startup environment and is excited to contribute to the growth of a mission-driven company. The Controller will work closely with the Fractional CFO, meeting weekly to ensure alignment on financial strategies and execution.

Key Responsibilities :

• Financial Management : Oversee all accounting operations, including Billing, A / R, A / P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP. Daily accounting tasks will include managing debits and credits in QuickBooks.
• Financial Reporting : Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements, manage month-end close, and develop quarterly and year-end financial reports. Present financial reports to the board, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
• Budgeting and Forecasting : Lead the development of the annual budget and financial forecasts, working closely with the CFO and Data Analyst on macro planning and FP&A. Track performance against goals and identify areas for improvement.
• Trade Spend Management : Set up and manage the accounting side of trade spend, monitoring it closely (on a daily basis) to ensure optimal financial performance.
• Cash Flow Management : Monitor and optimize cash flow to ensure the company has sufficient funds to meet its operating needs and support growth initiatives.
• Internal Controls : Develop and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets, support audit requirements, and foster a culture of financial accountability.
• Team Building : Build and lead a finance team, starting with the recruitment of at least one team member. This could include a remote person responsible for bookkeeping.
• Compliance : Maintain certifications, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements, including tax filings and audits.
• Process Improvement : Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
• Collaboration : Work closely with the CFO on strategic financial planning, including month-end close processes, quarterly and year-end financials, and creating financial presentations and decks for board meetings.
• External Relationships : Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and other financial stakeholders.

Qualifications :

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within the CPG or food industry. Experience in a high-growth startup environment is a plus, with specific experience in manufacturing needed.

Education : Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is strongly preferred.

Skills :

• Proficiency in QuickBooks, Google Office, Microsoft Office Suite.
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with a hands-on approach.

Compensation :

• Base salary based on experience + bonus + equity + healthcare stipend
