We are seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Design Engineer to plan, manage, and deliver complex transportation projects with a focus on Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and Signing/Pavement Marking. This role is suited for a seasoned professional who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a collaborative leadership style on multidisciplinary project teams. This position will serve as a project manager, technical discipline lead, working directly with clients and public agencies while guiding internal teams to deliver high‑quality, compliant, and effective MOT strategies.

This position will support our Utah offices but will have opportunities to support other offices throughout the western United States.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?
  • Manage and deliver analysis, design, and preparation of MOT phasing strategies, signing, striping, and traffic control plan sheets for transportation projects, including phased construction, detours, and temporary traffic control.
  • Serve as technical lead on mid‑to‑large‑scale traffic design assignments, ensuring quality control and compliance with MUTCD, AASHTO, DOT, and applicable agency standards.
  • Prepare and oversee the development of studies, technical reports, construction plans, specifications, and estimates from concept through final delivery.
  • Coordinate with clients, public agencies, project stakeholders, and multidisciplinary internal teams to deliver successful transportation projects.
  • Manage staff assignments, workloads, mentoring, and resource coordination across traffic and related disciplines.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required
  • 8+ years of professional experience in traffic with a focus on signing and MOT
  • Design‑Build and alternative delivery experience preferred
  • Proficiency with MicroStation OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, SignCAD, or other applicable software common to the field of transportation engineering
  • Hands‑on experience with Synchro/SimTraffic, Vistro, and Vissim preferred
  • Experience in roadway design is preferred
  • Experience and relationships with DOT agencies are highly preferred
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet schedules and budgets, and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff with design and project delivery
  • A desire to grow personally and professionally with each project while working in a team environment to create designs and drawings supporting our client’s overall project goals
