Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Traffic Design Engineer to oversee multi-site traffic engineering projects in the Tampa or Orlando area. The role requires senior expertise in capacity analyses, signal design, and corridor improvements, with supervision of cross‑functional teams and compliance with design standards.

The candidate must hold an engineering license and possess a strong background in roadway design, traffic operations, and project management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 7 to 10 years of post-education experience in engineering and traffic design.
• Engineer license required.
• Proficient and extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build related to traffic control equipment, capacity and operational analysis, project management, and related communications systems.
• Experience with roadway planning, design, and construction management; including project involvement in a variety of larger and more complex infrastructure projects, rehabilitation and construction of pavement, navigational aids, grading design, and safety management.

Responsibilities

• Provide high‑level guidance for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from sites, surveys, GIS data, maps, and technical data for project development.
• Apply advanced traffic engineering techniques to identify improvements across design, procurement, and operation phases.
• Conduct investigations and inspections to ensure conformance with rules, standards, and permits.
• Develop innovative concepts for intersection and corridor improvements and coordinate with authorities and clients.
• Design communications networks and traffic signal improvements to enable remote, real-time corridor operations.
• Serve as Engineer of Record for signing, pavement marking, signalization, and lighting plans.
• Oversee design and construction management of traffic projects, including safety plans and budgeting.
