Job summary

Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP in Chicago seeks a Senior Trademark Paralegal to manage end-to-end trademark workflows for US and international portfolios, including filings, prosecution, renewals and enforcement, in collaboration with attorneys and clients.

The role emphasizes process improvement, quality control, and the use of modern tools, with a hybrid work policy (3 days in office, 2 days remote). Requires 10+ years' trademark paralegal experience and ABA-approved education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Trademark Paralegal in a law firm.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. trademark rules and procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency with electronic legal research tools.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
  • Clear, confident communicator who collaborates effectively with attorneys and peers.
  • Professional judgment, discretion, and a high standard of confidentiality.
  • Proactive problem-solver who takes ownership and initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • US & Foreign Trademark Filings: Manage process and workflow of US and foreign filings, prosecution, renewals and conflicts.
  • Trademark Prosecution: Prepare and file new applications; draft goods/services specs; review specimens; prepare responses to the USPTO.
  • UDRPs: Manage and assist with UDRPs and internet enforcement.
  • Docketing: Monitor deadlines and maintain accurate records in docketing systems.
  • Searches: Conduct preliminary / knockout trademark searches using USPTO, WIPO, and commercial databases; coordinate with vendors.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with attorneys and support staff to ensure cohesive and efficient workflow.

YOUR ROLE:

The Senior Trademark Paralegal plays a strategic, client‑facing role supporting complex U.S. and international trademark portfolios. This high‑impact position owns end‑to‑end trademark workflows, including filings, prosecution, renewals and enforcement, while partnering closely with attorneys and clients. The role contributes to operational excellence by driving process improvements, quality control, and the effective use of modern tools and best practices.

YOUR IMPACT:
  • US & Foreign Trademark Filings: Manage process and workflow of US and foreign trademark filings, prosecution, renewals and conflicts (oppositions, cancellations, infringements, UDRPs and counterfeits).
  • Trademark Prosecution: Managing trademark prosecution with the USPTO, including:
    • preparing and filing new applications;
    • drafting goods and services specifications;
    • identifying and reviewing specimens of use; and
    • preparing response submissions to the USPTO.
  • UDRPs: Managing and assisting with UDRPs and internet enforcement.
  • Docketing: Monitoring deadlines and maintain accurate records in docketing systems.
  • Searches:
    • Experience with preliminary / knockout trademark searches using databases such as USPTO, WIPO Global Brand Database, and commercial search tools is a plus.
    • Supporting attorneys with full clearance searches, including coordinating with third‑party search vendors when necessary.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with attorneys and support staff to ensure cohesive and efficient workflow, supporting a high standard of client service.
