Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced railway track design professional for an Austin-based, full-time role. The candidate will lead track alignment and form solutions across corridors, coordinating with civil, structural, and systems teams to deliver integrated designs.

Qualifications include 10+ years in railway track design, a BSc/MSc in Civil Engineering, and a Texas PE license or reciprocity within 6 months. Relocation support may be available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in railway track design within transit or infrastructure projects.
• Professional Engineer license in Texas, or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.
• Experience coordinating across multidisciplinary rail design environments and with clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of track alignment and track form solutions across the corridor, including at-grade and elevated sections.
• Oversee horizontal and vertical alignment design, including geometry, clearances, and constructability considerations.
• Develop track design packages, including plans, profiles, cross sections, and specifications.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, systems, and stations teams for integrated design solutions.
• Support development of track form solutions (ballasted, direct fixation, embedded track) for urban conditions.
• Ensure designs meet safety, operational, maintenance, ride quality, durability, and resilience requirements.
• Interface with traction power, signaling, drainage, and utilities for coordination.
• Contribute to constructability reviews, phasing strategies, and staging plans in constrained urban environments.
• Support design management activities, including scope, schedule, quality, and risk management.
• Provide input into procurement, contractor engagement, and design reviews.
• Support testing, commissioning, and handover activities as required.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to track engineering capability development.
