Job summary

Amentum is seeking a part-time Senior Thermal Protection Systems (TPS) Engineer to provide technical leadership for NASA programs. The role focuses on TPS design, analysis, testing, and materials technologies to enable future crewed and uncrewed missions. You will mentor engineers and shape TPS roadmaps in a multidisciplinary team.

The position offers a 9/80 schedule where applicable, onsite facilities, and a pathway to contribute to mission-critical aerospace systems.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline.
• 15+ years aerospace experience focused on TPS.
• Extensive TPS design, analysis and testing experience.
• Experience with TPS integration and flight certification.
• Strong technical communication skills.
• Experience supporting multidisciplinary reviews.
• Subject-matter expert for program-level decisions.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate external TPS community across commercial and defense TPS development and testing.
• Guide development and qualification of advanced TPS materials and coatings.
• Interpret high-enthalpy testing campaigns to validate TPS performance.
• Develop and maintain a TPS technology roadmap aligned with goals and needs.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to TPS R&D planning.
