Job summary

American Electric Power in New Albany, OH seeks a Construction Lead Principal SG9 to oversee telecom tower construction, antenna systems, and related civil works. The role is onsite with about 50% travel to project sites and regional locations, guiding contractors and internal teams to safe, compliant execution.

You will review plans, materials, tests, RF safety, and coordinating with engineering, project management, and field teams to drive successful project completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Safety, or a related field and 8 years of experience overseeing or directing telecommunication tower construction, antenna system installations, or related wireless infrastructure projects, or an ABET‑accredited equivalent.
• Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Construction Management, Safety, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field and 10 years of experience overseeing or directing telecommunication tower construction, antenna system installations, or wireless site development work.
• OR High school diploma or equivalent with 12 years of direct experience working in telecommunication tower construction, antenna system installation, wireless field operations, or as a construction representative for a carrier or contractor.

Responsibilities

• Support ZERO Harm with all AEP departments and contractors in the office and field.
• Evaluate contractor submissions for work plans, lift plans, and rigging plans for compliance.
• Analyze concrete, soil density, moisture content, resistivity, and other test reports.
• Review RF considerations and educate onsite personnel about RF safety.
• Collaborate with engineering and project management to revise drawings and specs.
• Coordinate pre-construction bid walks and provide feedback on bid awards.
• Assist with outage planning, constructability, and field services support.
• Ensure project labor coverage and safety representation across projects.
