Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a Civil/Structural Engineer Principal SG9 to lead design and oversight for gas, coal, renewable, and new-generation power projects across multiple sites. This role establishes design criteria and guides construction through commissioning and operation.

Responsibilities include site development, foundations, structural steel, buildings, and utilities, coordinating with AEP stakeholders, EPCs, OEMs, and regulators to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory

Qualifications

ABET-accredited engineering degree is required.
8+ years of related engineering experience.
PE license preferred or eligible for waiver.

Responsibilities

Develop civil/structural design criteria, standards, and specifications.
Perform analyses, calculations, drawings, specs, and construction deliverables.
Support site grading, drainage, foundations, structures, roads, and utilities.
Coordinate interfaces across geotechnical, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and I&C.
Review loads, anchorage, installation constraints, and support requirements.
Support permitting, environmental compliance, and regulatory requirements.
Provide construction support including RFIs, inspections, QA/QC, and as-built docs.
Evaluate retrofit projects and support lifecycle asset management.
