Job summary

PHD, Inc. Fort Wayne is seeking an experienced Toolroom Attendant to design, build, and repair fixtures, gages, and tooling. You will operate manual and CNC machines, perform maintenance, and verify conformance to engineering specs.

You should bring deep knowledge of GD&T, blueprints, and tooling design, with a track record of improving processes and reducing downtime. This hands-on role emphasizes problem-solving and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years experience in machining or related manufacturing.
• 5 years of manual and CNC machining experience, including grinding.
• 4 years writing, proving and improving machining processes for mills and turning.
• Experience leading departmental projects or continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Strong blueprint-reading and GD&T knowledge.
• Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Basic CAD & MS Office skills; JD Edwards/Lotus Notes familiarity helpful.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Design and build fixtures, jigs, gages, and specialized tools.
• Operate manual and CNC lathes, mills, grinders to produce or repair components.
• Perform preventive and reactive maintenance on tooling to improve reliability.
• Inspect and test tools to verify conformance with specs.
• Read engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.
• Develop and improve machining processes for milling and turning.
• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Procure and organize replacement tooling and supplies.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and engineering teams.
• Train production employees on machine setups and tooling use.
• Develop work instructions and CAD designs.
• Lead continuous-improvement projects.
• Maintain a safe, clean toolroom.
