Job summary

Gilder Search Group seeks a Tool Room Machinist for an on-site, first-shift role in Mentor, OH. You will set up and run ProtoTRAK mills/lathe, surface grinders, and accessories to manufacture high-precision tools, dies, and fixtures, reporting to the Tool Room Supervisor.

You will prototype tooling requests with Engineering, read blueprints, select materials, and ensure strict AS9100/ISO9001 quality standards. This is a safety-focused environment with opportunities to mentor others.

Qualifications

• 10+ years hands-on machining experience with tool room, fixture development, or tool & die making.
• Proficiency in setting up/operating ProtoTRAK lathes, mills, and surface grinders.
• Advanced blueprint reading for complex parts from informal sketches/ verbal concepts.
• Knowledge of metallurgy, speeds/feeds, and material applications to meet specs.
• Tool & Die certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate ProtoTRAK mills, ProtoTRAK lathes, surface grinders, and related shop machinery to produce high-precision tools, dies, fixtures.
• Collaborate with Production and Engineering to prototype and deliver tooling requests on schedule.
• Convert sketches and concepts into functional components without existing tooling docs.
• Select materials and calculate speeds/feeds for safety and tool life.
• Use optical comparators and gauges to inspect finished work to quality standards.
• Provide machining support for CNC operations during peak demand.
• mentor operators on safety, best practices, and equipment usage across the shop.
